We had tried everything for my teenager’s skin and nothing worked for very long. Also, I was tired of all the toxic ingredients in so many of the over-the-counter and prescription products. Finally, after lots of online research, I stumbled across the idea of using crushed aspirin. If you think about it, it makes sense since salicylic acid (that’s all aspirin is) is an ingredient in many over-the-counter acne products. I love knowing exactly what goes into what I am putting on my child’s skin.
This toner comes together in under five minutes and will last up to 12 months, though realistically you’ll use it up in a few weeks. It will leave your skin clear and bright.
Note: Salicylic acid can make your skin more sensitive to the sun, so using this only at night is recommended.
- 5 Non-coated aspirin tablets
- 1 tablespoon organic Apple Cider Vinegar
- Distilled water
- 100% Witch Hazel – unscented
- 10 drops melaleuca essential oil
- I like to use these amber glass bottles – you will need a four ounce bottle to mix this in.
- Powder the aspirin tablets by crushing them using a mortar and pestle (or place in a heavy duty bag and hit with a meat mallet or rolling pin). Funnel into the bottle.
- Fill the bottle about 1/3 full of witch hazel.
- Add 1 tablespoon (or a big splash) of apple cider vinegar and the melaleuca oil.
- Fill the rest of the way with distilled water. Put on the lid and shake.
- After cleansing skin, put some toner on a cotton pad or cotton ball and wipe all over. Always shake well before using. Do not rinse.
